Registration for Railway Infrastructure Technology is allowed if one has successfully accomplished or is registered for 30 ECTS of (semi)common courses of the standard learning path of the Master in Electromechanical Engineering, VTT track (Dutch program idem).

Inhoud
The course "Railway Technology" brings knowledge as described below.
1) Commissioning of railway traffic control systems.
This specific subject is taught by engineers of Infrabel or by one of their suppliers (example: Siemens).
2) Data transfer between rail infrastructure and railway vehicles.
This specific subject is taught by engineers of Infrabel or by one of their suppliers (example: Alstom).
3) Electric current transfer between overhead line and vehicle pantograph.
This subject is specific for electric traction systems with special aspects at high speed. The subject is complementary tot the subjects taught in the course "Electric Traction" (Prof. Philippe Lataire). The subject is taught by engineers of Infrabel or by one of their suppliers (example: Alstom).
4) Liberalization of the transport market.
A member of the executive committee of Infrabel gives a lecture on this subject.
5) Grounding, ground currents.
This specific subject is taught by engineers of Infrabel.
6) Remote control; design of a control center; remote fault detection and diagnosis.
This topic is closely related to railway infrastructure and is taught by engineers of Infrabel.
7) Influence of the harmonic components in the traction current and of the induced currents on ground electronic equipment.
This subject, which is partly covered in the courses "Electric Traction" (Prof. Philippe Lataire) and "Electric installations" (Prof. J. Deconinck) is taught by engineers of Infrabel.
8) GSM & GSM-R.
This subject is taught by Prof. G. Bocq (Université Libre de Bruxelles)
9) Railway infrastructure; design of railways and railway structural works; exploitation conditions (railway unavailability).
This subject is taught by Prof. Henri Detandt (Université Libre de Bruxelles and TucRail).

Multiple engineers participate in teaching this course. It is organized in collaboration with Université Libre de Bruxelles and Infrabel N.V., the Belgian railway network operator. The teaching language for each individual part is English, eventually Dutch or French, depending on the lecturer's choices and language mastering. Study material is provided by the lecturers.

Algemene competenties

The students must have acquired knowledge and understanding in the structure, the operation and the characteristics of the Belgian railway transport system in European scope as described in the chapter "Content".
The students must be able to apply this knowledge in the frame of an internship and a master thesis at a railway company as a start for a possible career in Railway technology.
The students must be able to communicate the results of the previous in a written report.
The students must must be able by self learning to acquire knowledge about the structure, the operation, the characteristics and the application of other railway technology aspects that were not discussed in the course.
