Complementary study material:
Traction électrique Vol I & II, Roger Kaller et Jean-Marc Allenbach, Presses Polytechniques et Universitaire Romandes
Having in-depth knowledge and understanding of exact sciences with the specificity of their application to engineering
The course is specialized. The students must acquire knowledge and understanding about electric and power electronic systems used for driving electric rail vehicles.
Having an attitude of life-long learning as needed for the future development of his/her career
At the exam, the students must be able by self-learning to acquire knowledge about the structure, the operation and the characteristics of other traction systems than those analyzed during the course.
Having in-depth knowledge and understanding of the advanced methods and theories to schematize and model complex problems or processes
The students must acquire knowledge and understanding specifically of the Matlab Simulink software for the purpose of modelling electric traction systems.
Additional knowledge oriented competence for major Energy
Having a broad scientific knowledge, understanding and skills to be able to design, produce and maintain complex mechanical, electrical and/or energy systems with a focus on products, systems and services
The students must develop these aspects specifically for electric traction systems.
Additional knowledge oriented competence for major Energy
Having an in depth scientific knowledge, understanding and skills in at least one of the subfields needed to design, produce, apply and maintain complex mechanical, electrical and/or energy systems
The subfield considered here is electric traction which is typically related to high energy handling.
Can reformulate complex engineering problems in order to solve them (simplifying assumptions, reducing complexity)
The students are trained for this objective by analyzing the documents related to an existing traction system and by means of simulation to evaluate its performances.
Can present and defend results in a scientifically sound way, using comtemporary communication tools, for a national as well as for an international professional or lay audience
At the level of the exam the students must make a case study that they have to defend in an oral interview.
Can collaborate in a (multidisciplinary) team
At the level of the exam, the students must make a case study in team.
Having a critical attitude towards one's own results and those of others
At the level of the exam, the students must make a case study in team. Each student is evaluated individually on all aspects of the case. This sharps their critical attitude towards results of each other.
Having the flexibility and adaptability to work in an international and/or intercultural context
At the level of the exam, students are requested to use the BRUFACE opportunity to make international teams.
De beoordeling bestaat uit volgende opdrachtcategorieën:
Examen Mondeling bepaalt 100% van het eindcijfer
Binnen de categorie Examen Mondeling dient men volgende opdrachten af te werken:
First session : Oral examination
Second session : idem
A problem in the field of electric traction is submitted as a case study. The students are offered large preparation time and opportunity to consult any information source. The results of the preparation have to be presented in an interview for the purpose of the evaluation. The skills to model and simulate an electric traction system are evaluated in particular.
