Course Content
The following four main life processes will be discussed during this course:
· Respiration : respiration provides the supply of oxygen required for
Combustion of nutrients : energy supply
· Transport systems : transportation of various substances throughout the body
is a necessity, especially in multiple cell organisms and for high metabolisms.
· Nutrition, ingestion and digestion : the ingested food will be
converted into nutrients which are useful on a cellular level
· Excretion : waste products (including excess and detrimental ones) have
to be removed. CO2 is removed by the respiratory organs; dissolved
substances are removed via the excretion system.

If possible, the programme will be adapted to the interests of doctoral students with a topic relevant to this course;
in this case, a seminar will be organised.

Learning Outcomes

General competences

Illustrating and providing insight into animal physiology, focused on the structure, functioning and affinities of the essential life processes of animal organisms. After all, the functioning of an organism or organ is closely related to its structural organisation or morphology. In addition, it will be investigated how the various functions are controlled and integrated. The adaptive abilities of animals to changing circumstances are also part of the field of physiology.

Grading

The final grade is composed based on the following categories:
Written Exam determines 100% of the final mark.

Within the Written Exam category, the following assignments need to be completed:

  • written exam with a relative weight of 1 which comprises 100% of the final mark.

Additional info regarding evaluation

A written exam focusing on insight.

Allowed unsatisfactory mark
The supplementary Teaching and Examination Regulations of your faculty stipulate whether an allowed unsatisfactory mark for this programme unit is permitted.
