Course Content
  • Plant genome analysis: sequencing and annotation of genomes, genome evolution, gene duplication, repetitive DNA, transposable elements, dynamics of chloroplast, mitochondrial and nuclear genomes
  • Functional genomics and transcriptomics
  • Transformation of plants:
    Introduction of DNA in plant cells: Agrobacterium mediated transformation; direct gene transfer
    Generating transgenic plants and the use of selectable markers; regeneration; meristem transformation, in planta transformation, microspore transformation;
    transient expression systems    
  • New plant breeding technologies: cis- and intragenesis, genome editing, gene targeting
  • RNA silencing and and applications for research and molecular breeding: siRNA and microRNA pathways and their biological relevance, co-suppression, VIGS
  • Epigenetic regulation mechanisms in plants

General competences

Students have a thorough understanding of plant genomics, genetics and epigentics.

Students have a thorough knowledge of molecular plant genetic techniques and have an insight in how these can be applied in fundamental and applied research.
