Course Content

The master thesis is an important final piece of the education program of master of science in manual therapy. Succeeding in the master thesis is an important condition to obtain the diplom of master of science in manual therapy and to gain the competence of scientific researcher in manual therapy.

In case the master in manual therapy was already preceded by a master thesis of rehabilitation science and physiotherapy, graduation option manual therapy, the present master thesis can be a further elaboration of the foregoing scientific project.

The master thesis in manual therapy requires an original contribution to the scientific underpinning of manual therapy.

The master thesis should be submitted as a scientific article, ready for submission to an international scientific journal.

The master thesis is finally submitted at the secretary office of the manual therapy program (at least five copies) accompanied by a digital copy with the text of the master thesis in a PDF and in a Word version.  In case    In

General competencies

Succeeding in the master thesis is an important condition to gain the competence of scientific researcher in manual therapy.  WW   With  In succeeding the master thesis of manual therapy, the student has proven to be able to analyse and to treat a particular scientific problem, related to manual therapy or related disciplines, and thus to contribute to the scientific underpinning of the manual therapy.

Grading

The final grade is composed based on the following categories:
Master Thesis determines 100% of the final mark.

Within the Master Thesis category, the following assignments need to be completed:

  • Masterthesis with a relative weight of 1 which comprises 100% of the final mark.

    Note: Het tijdstip waarop de student zijn werk publiek moet verdedigen wordt hem/haar 14 dagen op voorhand meegedeeld via het EXAN secretariaat. De verdediging bestaat uit een mondelinge uiteenzetting (10min) en uit een ondervraging (10 min) van de student door de leden van de aangestelde jury, onder voorzitterschap van de docent van de leerstoel Manuele Therapie. Het geheel – deliberatie inbegrepen – duurt maximaal 30 minuten. Twee dagen voor aanvang van de verdediging dienen de promotor en juryleden bij het EXAN secretariaat hun beoordelingsverslag in.
    De beoordeling bestaat uit een score op 20 punten van de promotor(en)/begeleiders + op 20 van jurylid 1 + op 20 van Jurylid 2, de totaalscore wordt herleid naar 40 en aangevuld met een score op 10 voor de presentatie en op 10 voor de antwoorden op de vraagstellingen van de juryleden. Het totaalcijfer op 60 wordt herleid tot een eindcijfer op 20 punten.

Additional info regarding evaluation

The exam related to the master thesis properly, exist of an oral presentaion of the master thesis using a powerpoint presentation (10 minutes) followed by questions from the board of examiners.

Place and date of the defence of the master thesis are communicated at least ten days before the defense session.  

Allowed unsatisfactory mark
The supplementary Teaching and Examination Regulations of your faculty stipulate whether an allowed unsatisfactory mark for this programme unit is permitted.
