Inhoud
Lecture:
This course provides a first overview of the design philosophy of aircraft systems, and then a more detailed study of the major systems. The course consists of the following parts:
  • System failures and safety assessment
  • Maintenance programs
  • Hydraulic system
  • Flight control system
  • Fuel system
  • Electrical system
  • Landing gear
  • Pneumatic system
  • Systems and safety for electric and hybrid/electric aircraft
  • Systems and safety for Urban Air Mobility

Assignment:
The students are assigned to write a paper on a topic related to (modern) aircraft systems and future trends. The topic varies from one year to another.

Leerresultaten

objectives

D1: know and apply the safety and reliability leves when designing aircraft systems (MaLO 3, 7, 8, MaSLO EM 4 LT)
D2: understand the philosophy behind aircraft maintenance (MaLO 7, MaSLO EM 2, 4 LT)
D3: develop a maintenance program for an aircraft (MaLO 8, 15, MaSLO EM 2, 4 LT)
D4: know the general lay-out of the hydraulic, electrical, fuel, flight control, landing gear, and pneumatic system in an aircraft (MaSLO EM 2, 4 LT)
D5: know the principal components of the hydraulic, electrical, fuel, flight control, landing gear, and pneumatic system in an aircraft (MaSLO EM 2, 4 LT)
D6: think critically about how the design and maintenance of aircraft systems determines the safety and reliability of an aircraft and its systems (MaLO 3, MaSLO EM 2, 4 LT)

AD1: reasons and acts in a structured and systematic manner (MaLO 3)
AD2: communicates in Dutch in a comprehensible and structured manner (MaLO 14)
AD3: develops a professional attitude (MaLO 11, 14, 16)

Learning Outcomes

  • MaLO_3 To independently integrate and deepen previously acquired knowledge with a view to the opportunities for innovating practical implementations, whilst being aware of the limits of one's own competencies.
  • MaLO_7 To act from a research attitude: creativity, accuracy, critical reflection, curiosity, justify choices on the basis of solution-oriented arguments.
  • MaLO_8 To design systems, products, services and processes,  with a focus on innovation and operations. To interpolate and experiment in the business context.
  • MaLO_11 To work on a project in a primarily subject-specific context: to set goals, to monitor the goals and progress of the project. To function as a member of an (inter- and multidisciplinary) team, to start to lead, to be a bridge between management and workplace, to operate in an international or intercultural environment.  To report effectively.
  • MaLO_14 To communicate orally and in writing about one's field in the language or languages relevant to the specialty.
  • MaLO_15 To present and communicate, both in language and graphics, information about the field to colleagues and laymen.
  • MaLO_16 To act in an ethically, professionally and socially responsible manner with attention to technical, economic, human and sustainability aspects.
  • MaSLO-EM_2 To analyse,  optimize and manage production processes and machines.
  • MaSLO-EM_4-LT To acquire depth in the electromechanical-engineering field of: Aeronautics.
