General competences
This course is about how to extract information from data and how informative data are generated. A selection of practical statistical and mathematical methods are applied to the kinds of problems encountered when studying environmental data. More specifically we want the students to develop a critical appreciation for the tasks of:
- Selecting / designing optimal experimental procedures
- Understanding, assessing and interpreting research results
- Promoting critical judgments in data analysis, model and method development
- Solving analytical problems in a quantitative manner with the aid of the spreadsheet EXCEL

Examen Schriftelijk bepaalt 100% van het eindcijfer
Binnen de categorie Examen Schriftelijk dient men volgende opdrachten af te werken:
- Theory + exercise

en aldus 100% van het totale eindcijfer.

Written open-book examination containing resolution of exercises and open theoretical questions. The exam takes place over a period of 3 hrs and requires the use of a computer. A written report summarizing the results/answers and the methodology is requested at the end of the examination.
