In this seminar we approach the issue of the Enlightenment and its actuality by reading, analyzing and discussing exemplary source texts structured by particular themes. It concerns texts of the historical Enlightenment and contemporary interpretations. The following themes are i.a. discussed: What is Enlightenment? (Kant); Dialectic of the Enlightenment? (Horkheimer & Adorno). The seminar concludes with an open discussion, Quodlibet, that focuses on the themes that have been central throughout the sessions, texts and discussions, in particular: Enlightenment and democracy - critique and myths of the Enlightenment.

The students know and have insight into the project of the Enlightenment. They have knowledge and insight into contemporary interpretations of the Enlightenment. The students have knowledge about specific topics of the Enlightenment. The students can reflect critically on the meaning of the Enlightenment and formulate a personal view on the basis of arguments. They can analyse and evaluate primary and secondary philosophical texts concerning the Enlightenment. They can communicate the result of their reflection and evaluation.
The final grade is composed based on the following categories:
