Learning Outcomes

General competencies

The student has insight into different biomechanical research procedures.

The student is able to interpret results stemming from biomechanical research.

The student knows several applications of biomechanics within the field of sports and rehab sciences.

The student knows how to apply biomechanical concepts to movement and sports.

The student is able to analyze simple biomechanical research protocols and is able to carry them out.

The student knows how to report results on a scientific level; and knows how to translete these to coach/patient/athlete.

Grading

The final grade is composed based on the following categories:
Written Exam determines 40% of the final mark.
PRAC Teamwork determines 40% of the final mark.
PRAC Practical Assignment determines 20% of the final mark.

Within the Written Exam category, the following assignments need to be completed:

  • content of lectures with a relative weight of 40 which comprises 40% of the final mark. This is a mid-term test.

Within the PRAC Teamwork category, the following assignments need to be completed:

  • movement analysis with a relative weight of 40 which comprises 40% of the final mark. This is a mid-term test.

Within the PRAC Practical Assignment category, the following assignments need to be completed:

  • data analysis with a relative weight of 20 which comprises 20% of the final mark. This is a mid-term test.

Additional info regarding evaluation

Written exam:

The written exam is on the topic of the content of the lectures.

PRAC Practical Assignment:

The practical assignments tests the skills related to the processing of biomechanical data in MS Excel.

WPO Teamwork:

The teamwork assignment is on the topic of movement analysis. In this, the student group needs to construct and carry out a biomechanical test protocol. They are able to demonstrate the relevance of the studied variables based upon scientific literature. Results are being reported on a scientific level, and also translated into lay man's terms. The students are able to reflect critically about their chosen protocol and the obtained results. The group work is reported in a paper and a presentation.

When multiple students work together on an assignment (where allowed); a buddycheck is included in the examination procedure.

In case the student wants to shift the exam to another date due to legal reason, the exam form might be different from the orginal format (example: oral instead of written).
