Learning Outcomes

Learning outcome 1
Students master one or two foreign languages on a C1-C2 level as described by the Common European Framework of Reference. This level applies to comprehension (listening and reading), speaking skills (production and interaction) and writing skills.
Learning outcome 2
Students understand all written and spoken utterances on a native speaker pace and level. They are able to correctly decode the content of utterances, even in complex communicative situations, and to communicate orally in a fluent, accurate and clear way in the foreign language.
Learning outcome 3
Students can act as intercultural communication experts or interpreters to mediate (specialised) communication in various professional (inter)national contexts, both in Dutch and in the foreign language(s).
Learning outcome 4
Students are able to deliver speeches on specific topics and to consecutively and simultaneously interpret speeches on general and specific topics in Dutch or in the foreign language(s). Furthermore, students are able to perform sight translation in Dutch and in the foreign language as well as
mediate conversations as interpreters in specific, professional contexts such as social and legal interpreting.
Learning outcome 5
Students are able to make efficient use of specific technological tools to support their professional oral communication during the delivery or in preparation of interpreting assignments. They are able to manage topicspecific terminology autonomously.
Learning outcome 6
Students are able to plan, steer, perform and analyse interpreting assignments both individually and as part of a team. They can properly function as interpreters in a multi-disciplinary, national and international environment. They understand the structure of the interpreting market and are able to initiate and manage interpreting assignments professionally.
Learning outcome 7
Students are aware of the professional codes of conduct and take on a high degree of responsibility while interpreting individually or as part of a team.
Learning outcome 8
Students are aware of the regulations and legislation that enable them to deliver interpreting assignments in employment or as a freelancer.
Learning outcome 9
Students are able to critically apply insights acquired from studying multilingual and intercultural contexts in a variety of oral, communicative situations.
Learning outcome 10 
Students have knowledge of the main theories and principles of intercultural communication, as well as the role of linguistic variation and communicative skills.
Learning outcome 11
Students have a thorough knowledge and awareness of the social, political, institutional, historical and cultural contexts of the countries in which the studied languages are spoken. Furthermore, students are able to apply their insight in such contextual developments to different communicative situations.
Learning outcome 12 
Students are able to independently conceive, plan, and conduct research in the field of interpreting studies and related disciplines, at the level of a beginning researcher. They can communicate the results in writing and orally to both a general and a specialized audience, using Dutch and/or at least one foreign language.
Learning outcome 13 
Students are able to actively follow new developments in interpreting studies and related disciplines, critically reflect on them, and place them within a broad societal and international context. They can continue to contribute to the scientific study of interpreting.
Learning outcome 14 
Students are able to recognize the ethical aspects of research and act accordingly.
Learning outcome 15 
Students are able to independently and purposefully apply the research methodology used in interpreting studies.
Learning outcome 16
Students respect cultural differences and different ways of thinking, and are aware of the challenges that may arise in a multilingual, globalising society and in the professional context. Students integrate linguistic and cultural sensitivity and respect the diversity in scientific work, professional context and public debate.
Learning outcome 17
Students adopt a critical and inquisitive attitude towards interpreting related topics and aim to continuously expand their knowledge.
