Overview of the study plan

In addition to the Master's thesis (12 + 6 ECTS), the student is obliged to take the Brussels subject (3 ECTS) and Multilingual Practies (18 ECTS). He chooses one Research Methodology (3 ECTS) and one Mutlilingual Practice (6 ECTS) and 12 ECTS within the chosen profile.


Module I: Research

This module consists of a course package of 24 credits. Multilingual mediation and communication has a broad remit, and the subject can be looked at form the perspective of several scientific disciplines, most notably Translation Studies and Interpreting Studies. Both involve process- as well as product- oriented research. Students in the Multilingual Mediation and Communication profile are asked to elect either "Translation Studies and Research Methodology" or "Interpreting Studies and Research Methodology", depending on which discipline is most closely tot heir chosen Master's thesis subject.

Students gain insights into the main theoretical underpinnings, problem definitions, research questions and methodologies of their chosen discipline.
On the basis of their acquired knowledge and practical research-related skills, students are able to conduct a research project under the guidance of a supervisor. This research culminates in a Master's thesis through which students demonstrate that they sufficiently achieved the learning outcomes of the programme.

Module II: Multilingual Practices

The module consists of a course package of 24 credits, and it is devoted to the theory and practice of multilingual communication. It looks at this communication in social, academic, and professional contexts, and provides students with an opportunity to practise their mediation skills (e.g. translating, interpreting) in order to facilitate this communication. The compulsory internship in this module will further enhance students' professional experience.
