Course Content

The literature review serves as preparation for the master thesis course. The Master thesis consists of an individual research project related to ongoing research in one of the associated research groups and must be publicly defended by the student. The effective supervisor is a postdoc or professor associated with one of the research groups involved in teaching in the programme “Master of Science in Marine and Lacustrine Science and Management". If the thesis project is (partly) performed outside the research group of the main promoter, a co-supervisor is appointed.

The literature review is written in English.

The literature review (5-10 pages including figures and references) about the chosen research project should give the student state-of-the-art knowledge on the thesis subject by thorough consultation of the available literature in a thoughtful manner before the actual research project is started. It also allows the student to think about the wider context of his/her research and to identify the more specific questions that can be addressed by the proposed research activities. This work is not yet referring to any research results of the thesis itself.
