Course Content

The course is focused on the physiotherapeutic assessment and treatment of persons with disorders of the central nervous system, f.i. spinal cord lesions, cerebrovascular accident, brain injury and coma, equilibrium problems, cerebellar ataxia, vertigo, Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis.

Learning Outcomes

Clinician

The student knows the clinical phenomena of disorders of the central nervous system relevant for the physiotherapist. 

The student applies a correct physiotherapeutic assessment in patients with central nervous system disorders.

The student elaborates a correct physiotherapeutic treatment plan and is able to execute the treatment in case of patients with central nervous system disorders.

The student knows the natural and abnormal course of the disorders of the central nervous system.

The student knows the red flags that neccesitate referal to a specialist in case of disorders of the central nervous system.

 

Clinicus C1 & C2

The student has insight in the relation between the location of CNS pathology and the related neurological symptoms.

The student is able to perform a clinical neurological evaluation in a patient with CNS disorder. He is able to determine treatment goals and to elaborate a treatment plan. He is able to apply the treatment correctly.

Grading

The final grade is composed based on the following categories:
Written Exam determines 70% of the final mark.
SELF Teamwork determines 30% of the final mark.

Within the Written Exam category, the following assignments need to be completed:

  • ExamenSchriftelijkNeuroII with a relative weight of 70 which comprises 70% of the final mark.

Within the SELF Teamwork category, the following assignments need to be completed:

  • GroepswerkNeuroII with a relative weight of 30 which comprises 30% of the final mark.

Additional info regarding evaluation

oral Exam: Theory: 50 % + Practical part: 50 %

If you obtain 8/20 or less on one of the two parts, this will be the end result.
