Course Content

The course offers an overview of current research questions in archives and records management. Archival science is evolving as a response to societal developments. Social, political, economic, cultural and technological evolutions and changes (e.g. the digital transformation) demand new answers and a rethinking of archival science. These challenges are interdisciplinary and global, reason why an international perspective is chosen for this course. Because of the pace of change, topics in this course can vary on a yearly basis.

The course also focuses on methodological elements of research in archival science. As a consequence, students are familiar with:

- quantitative and qualitative types of scientific research commonly used in archival science

- innovative research methodologies that have led to new insights in the field.

As a result, the course prepares students for their master’s thesis.
