Offer 2 with catalog number 1023267ANR for all students in the 1st semester at a (A) Bachelor - preliminary level.
Lectures with exercises on three crucial aspects of the Italian language in its social context: a) the tension between the written and the spoken language, b) the relationship between the standard language and the dialects, c) the external language history with emphasis on the period between the late 18th and 21st century. The course will emphasize the relationship between the development of the Italian language and some important cultural and political achievements, until the final spread of a spoken standard language.

OBJECTIVES AND SKILLS
1.Objectives
- the students broaden their knowledge about the Italian language structures and the cultural developments of modern and contemporary Italy.
- students learn to use linguistic and cultural sources (handbooks, encyclopedias, internet sites).
2.Skills
- the course aims to sharpen both the receptive skills (reading, understanding) and the productive skills of the student (reading, speaking, analyzing, applying).
- by the end of the lectures, the student will be able to interpret and explain linguistic phenomena concerning written and spoken Italian, the diatopic variety of Italian, the external history of Italian.
The final grade is composed based on the following categories:
Oral Exam determines 80% of the final mark.
Practical Exam determines 20% of the final mark.

Students have to succeed in all parts of the evaluation procedure in order to obtain a pass mark for the whole course.
Student who fail to participate in all the parts of the evaluation procedure will be automatically marked as "absent".
Students can transfer to the next exam session the results of those parts of the evaluation process for which they have obtained a pass mark. These result can not be transferred to the following academic year.
At the oral exam, the students are granted with preparation time.
