The course consists of seminars by lecturers of the organising universities and invited guest lectureres on problems and challenges that are or can be solved through molecular and biotechnollogical approaches and the economic, social, ethical and regulatory aspects associated with such approaches.
Invited speaker are from industry, research institutes and/or NGOs; in addition 2-3 alumni of the Master of Science Programme in Molecular Biology will be invited;
Students need to write an essay concerning one of the topics discussed in the lectures.
Participation in the lectures is compulsory.
Students are informed about practical applications of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology in various fields related to human health, agro- and plant biotechnology and know how to adress challenges through these technologies.
The students are aware and able to reflect on the social, economical and ethical implications of the applications of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology and are aware of the possibilities and limitations of new technologies.
The students are aware of the complexity of bringing a research result to a commercial product.
Students are able to communicate on social, economical and ethical issues in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, both in written and oral form.
