- Inhoud
The course is designed to study the basic principles of management, including the functions of planning, organizing, leading, and controlling.
In addition to a critical analysis of the key concepts and theories of management, the course will cover a range of contemporary subjects such as ethics, entrepreneurship, leadership, and global business.
Short cases, applications, and guest lectures will supplement the theory, so students learn to apply theories and concepts to a more practical setting of everyday business life.

- Textbook ‘Management – Custom edition for Vrije Universiteit Brussel’ (compiled by Prof. Scheerlinck), 2018, McGraw-Hill Education, for sale at Standaard Student Shop (B-building, ground floor). Students are required to buy the 2018-edition of the book, no previous version.

- Hoorcollege (HOC): collective contact moments during which the professor covers the course materials
- Werkvormen en praktische oefeningen (WPO): collective and individual contact moments during which the student applies the theory, under guidance
- Zelfwerk en –studie (ZELF): contact-independent moments, based on self-study
HOC: 26 hrs (13 x 2 hrs) of lectures and 4 hrs (2 x 2 hrs) of guest lectures
WPO: 9 hrs
ZELF: 112 hrs
- regular processing of course materials (textbook, lecture notes, and slides), 3 hrs per week: 39 hrs
- preparing and processing of WPOs; case readings; watching videos; answering case questions; solving applications (SWOT, BCG, BSC,…); reading additional references and press releases; additional research for a better understanding of the materials, 2 hrs per week: 26 hrs
- self study of specific chapters (listed by the professor) and answering guiding questions: 7 hrs
- processing and writing up guest lecture notes: 4 hrs

Examen Schriftelijk bepaalt 100% van het eindcijfer
Binnen de categorie Examen Schriftelijk dient men volgende opdrachten af te werken:
- Written Exam
met een wegingsfactor 100
en aldus 100% van het totale eindcijfer.
- Aanvullende info mbt evaluatie
Closed-book written exam, consisting of open-ended questions, sentence completion, true-or-false statements (with correction for guessing), and exercises/applications.
