Course Content

The course is designed to study the basic principles of management, including the functions of planning, organizing, leading, and controlling.
In addition to a critical analysis of the key concepts and theories of management, the course will cover a range of contemporary subjects such as ethics, entrepreneurship, leadership, and global business.
Short cases, applications, and guest lectures will supplement the theory, so students learn to apply theories and concepts to a more practical setting of everyday business life.

  • Textbook ‘Management – Custom edition for Vrije Universiteit Brussel’ (compiled by Prof. Scheerlinck), 2018, McGraw-Hill Education, for sale at Standaard Student Shop (B-building, ground floor). Students are required to buy the 2018-edition of the book, no previous version.

  • Hoorcollege (HOC): collective contact moments during which the professor covers the course materials

The final grade is composed based on the following categories:
Written Exam determines 100% of the final mark.

Within the Written Exam category, the following assignments need to be completed:

  • Written Exam with a relative weight of 100 which comprises 100% of the final mark.

Closed-book written exam, consisting of open-ended questions, sentence completion, true-or-false statements (with correction for guessing), and exercises/applications.
