1. Overview of the most important systemic directions within relation- and family therapy based on three key components, i.e., basic theories, clinical practice and a critical perspective based on recent evidence-based literature
2. How actual topics can be part of a family therapy and how to integrate them
3. Group task:
a. Weekly moments of discussion within small groups of 4-8 students: semi-structured reflection tasks that are based on the main topics of the theory. Their will be fixed questions to start from + the choice to elaborate on certain topics
b. Clinical part: mentalizing dialogue + learning to monitor groups processes on an interpersonal level
c. Theoretical part: to link the observations at the one hand with the theory and at the other hand with scientific literature
d. Q&A discussion moment with prof
e. Output = integration of the topics of the group linked with theory of the course and scientific literature
4. WPO: The backroom of the therapist: discussion of the profession of a therapist

1. The students will have an overview of and can build an opinion on the most important directions within relation- and family therapy
2. The students will reflect on the content of the courses with regard to their own background and past as well as current life context
3. The students select and report scientific literature associated with the content of the courses
4. The students will get a first glimpse of mentalizing within family therapy
5. The students get insight in ‘how and what’ of a relation- and family therapist
The final grade is composed based on the following categories:
SELF Teamwork determines 100% of the final mark.
Within the SELF Teamwork category, the following assignments need to be completed:
No possibility for an individual 2nd exam session. A 2nd exam session is only possible if every group member agrees.
