Course Content

Building on the knowledge and skills acquired in Nederlands: communicatieve vaardigheden I, the students in this course work on their oral and written language skills in Dutch. During the lectures and seminars, a number of text genres are taught and practiced using genre analysis as a tool. Additionally the students learn to deliver a professional presentation.

Goals writing proficiency:

  • Students can describe the genre features of the text genres covered in the course.
  • Students can analyse and evaluate texts in the genres covered regarding their adherence to key genre features.
  • Students can independently produce new texts within the genres covered in this course.
  • Students can explain the principles of genre analysis and apply them to a novel text genre.
  • Students can acquire new text genres through genre analysis with minimal support.
  • Students show an understanding of the relevance of genre analysis and revision skills for the linguistic professional.
  • Students are capable of critically evaluating their own texts and those of others regarding language and genre features and revise the text accordingly.

Goals oral proficiency:

  • Students can name and discuss the features of a professional presentation and their relevance.
  • Students can independently make and deliver a professional presentation in front of an audience.

Grading

The final grade is composed based on the following categories:
Written Exam determines 35% of the final mark.
Other Exam determines 65% of the final mark.

Within the Written Exam category, the following assignments need to be completed:

  • schriftelijk EXM with a relative weight of 7 which comprises 35% of the final mark.

    Note: Schriftelijk examen.

Within the Other Exam category, the following assignments need to be completed:

  • ander EXM with a relative weight of 13 which comprises 65% of the final mark.

    Note: Permanente evaluatie aan de hand van schrijfopdrachten doorheen het semester + examenopdracht presentatietechnieken.
    Tweede examenkans: de student herwerkt alle opdrachten waarvoor hij niet geslaagd is en dient deze opnieuw in.

Additional info regarding evaluation

In order to pass this course, the student has to obtain a score of at least 10/20 for the oral part of the permantent evaluation, as well as the written part of the permanent evaluation and the written exam.
