Course Content

This course aims at sharpening the skills to communicate effectively in German in an number of specific fields of communication. The practice-oriented exercises focus on receptive (reading, listening and understanding) and productive (speaking and writing) skills in specific domains (subject areas, text types, professional situations and academic environments).

Final Competences

  • The students develop and extend their knowledge of useful phrases and expressions that are commonly used in the field of various specific professional communication situations. [Knowledge]

Objectives

The aiml of this module is for the students to acquire skills in current German-language communication for specific purposes.

Grading

The final grade is composed based on the following categories:
Written Exam determines 50% of the final mark.
Other Exam determines 50% of the final mark.

Within the Written Exam category, the following assignments need to be completed:

  • Examen schriftelijk with a relative weight of 50 which comprises 50% of the final mark.

    Note: schriftelijk examen met een wegingsfactor 40 en aldus 40% van het totale eindcijfer. Toelichting: In de tweede zittijd wordt dit 100%

Within the Other Exam category, the following assignments need to be completed:

  • Examen andere with a relative weight of 50 which comprises 50% of the final mark.

    Note: permanente evaluatie met een wegingsfactor 60 en aldus 60% van het totale eindcijfer. Toelichting: Buiten de examenperiode, vervalt voor tweede zittijd.

Additional info regarding evaluation

A student cannot pass this module if he/she obtains an 8/20 or less for (1) the written exam or (2) the permanent evaluation (= mandatory writing assignments and possible speaking assignments in the course of the semester. Modules for which a failing grade was obtained must be retaken in the second examperiod.
