Inhoud

Lectures:

The main objective of this course is to discuss the modelling, design and operation of heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems.

The course starts with the theory of psychrometry. The basic properties of humid air are treated such as: absolute humidity, relative humidity, dew point, dry- and wet bulb temperature, vapour pressure, saturation pressure and adiabatic saturation enthalpy.

This theory is next applied to air conditioning design, including aspects of thermal comfort and air quality and determination of the heat and cooling load in buildings. The theory of coupled heat and mass transfer between humid air and liquid water through direct contact in different types of cooling towers is also addressed.

Practical exercises:

In the practical exercise sessions students solve problems under supervision.
The selected problems are a direct application of knowledge and concepts gained in the lectures.
