Course Content

Oral proficiency:

1 / theoretical knowledge of the relationship between articulation, voice and breathing.

2 / correction of the existing articulation basis to the articulation basis of standard Dutch, for vowels, diphthongs and consonants.

3 / learning and applying the rules of pronunciation

4 / learning and applying the rules of assimilation

5 / learning and applying good voice projection and vocal hygiene

6 / acquiring and understanding of the rules of intelligent intonation

 

Written proficiency:

1/ writing and formulating correctly, paying special attention to correct vocabulary and sentence formation and language written to be spoken

2/ refining the vocabulary

3/ writing in a clear, attractive and appropriate way

4/ rewriting exercises following for specific audiences

Part oral proficiency:

Students

- understand the cause of reductions in fluency and work independently on the solution

- have a flawless basic articulation

- speak clearly and adapt to the microphone

- know the rules of pronunciation and assimilation and apply them

- ensure clear two-way communication

- have an attractive, pleasant speaking voice without any traces of dialect while reading a prepared and an unprepared news bulletin

 

Part written proficiency:

Students

- are able to produce journalistic texts in various genres and domains in flawless Dutch

- have an extended vocabulary

- are able to rewrite texts for a specific audience

- master the register of language written to be spoken

Grading

The final grade is composed based on the following categories:
Oral Exam determines 50% of the final mark.
Other Exam determines 50% of the final mark.

Within the Oral Exam category, the following assignments need to be completed:

  • Mondeling examen with a relative weight of 50 which comprises 50% of the final mark.

Within the Other Exam category, the following assignments need to be completed:

  • Permanente evaluatie with a relative weight of 50 which comprises 50% of the final mark.

Part written proficiency: permanent assessment based on submission of assignments.

Part oral proficiency: students need to read a news bulletin.

Students need to obtain a pass grade (10/20) for all course components in order to pass. In the second examination period, resit is only required for those components for which the student did not pass in the first session.
