Course Content

[Use of language] The emphasis is on correct writing and expression, with most attention to correct vocabulary and  sentence structure. Students are required to know the spelling rules (with the most recent changes of 2015) and to be able to work with the official site woordenlijst.org (= online version of the “Groene Boekje”).  Students will refine their vocabulary by consulting a range of language advice sites such as vrttaal.net or taaladvies.net.
Correct syntax is practised with a series of re-writing exercises.
[Journalistic writing] The emphasis is on clarity, readability and suitability, with writing and rewriting exercises.  Students’ texts will be published in the webmagazines on https://studentenprojecten.masterjournalistiek.vub.be. Students work in groups on these web magazines.  They develop a magazine concept together, taking turns for the roles of chief editor, journalist, executive editor and designer.
