Offer 1 with catalog number 4018665FNR for all students in the 1st and 2nd semester at a (F) Master - specialised level.
Within this part of the internship the student learns to work in an independent way in the different domains of physical activity, fitness and health. Special attention is given to specific and individualized training or to a deeper elaboration of health promotional aspects.
- motivational interview (mandatory): ca 30 hours, continuation but over a longer time period (3 months).
For the remaining part the students are allowed to chose internship in specific setting for specialized training and guidance: e.g. Athletes Care Antwerp, Fitlab Notebohm, Kinetiek VUB, Blits-Mfys VUB, Sportdienst VUB, De FitnessOrganisatie, Mutualities, GezondLeven, LOGO's, BOV coach, Hospitals (e.G. UZ Brussel). The student is equally allowed to continue his internship in the health promotional setting.
Additionally, a minimum of 5 hours of training courses and congresses need to be followed as part of the internship.
Choices need to be approved by the teaching team.
The student makes a dossier with an objective (data, hours, programs, testings…) and a subjective part (strength and weaknesses). A report (on a specially designed form) of the supervisor of the specific internship location is asked.
A broad overview and knowledge of the different aspects of physical activity; physical fitness and health. The student is obliged to keep all activities in a shared agenda. Hours performed that were not in this agenda will not be counted.
The student is able to advise and coach subjects in different settings towards an active and fit lifestyle.
The student is able to develop fitness programs, the student is able to evaluate and to adjust these programs.
The student is able to promote a healthy lifestyle.
The student knows the different domains within the field of physical activity; physical fitness and health.
The student is able to work with specific groups (subjects with chronical illness, elderly, top athletes).
The final grade is composed based on the following categories:

The internship dossier is taken into account as well as the discussion and the critical analysis of the internship during an oral exam. The marks are a combination of the dossier, the discussion, the evaluation(s) of the supervisor, the evaluation of the internal supervisor (after a visit on location). In case 1 of the obliged items (motivational interviewing, additional training courses/congresses, free internship) is not performed or not discussed in the dossier, the student fails for this course.
