Course Content

In this project the students will conduct their own research in the field of analytical and environmental chemistry. Their research attitude will be stimulated. After a few introduction sessions the students will form groups and create their own research strategy to tackle a scientific question. They will be asked to report orally and written and give a poster presentation to their peers to stimulate scientific communication. It is possible to continue the research in the Bachelor thesis.

Additional info

The lab sessions are compulsory. Absence or late show up for a lab session results in a fail for this part of the WPO (it will be calculated pro rata in the final score).

General Competences

  • The students can independently use analytical techniques and interpret the results.
  • The students will develop a scientific attitude to measure precisely, improve their critical thinking skills and promote creativity.
  • Team work
  • The students will report orally and written about their results, and they will practice reporting this to their peers.
  • The students learn how to extract scientific important information from literature to solve their scientific question.

Grading

The final grade is composed based on the following categories:
PRAC Practical Assignment determines 100% of the final mark.

Within the PRAC Practical Assignment category, the following assignments need to be completed:

  • examen andere with a relative weight of 1 which comprises 100% of the final mark.

Additional info regarding evaluation

The evaluation takes place continuously and accounts for the full final score.

During this evaluation the acquired skills, insights, dedication and laboratory reports, poster and poster presentation are taken into consideration.

Reports that are handed in after the submission deadline are not considered for evaluation and will not be scored.

Allowed unsatisfactory mark
The supplementary Teaching and Examination Regulations of your faculty stipulate whether an allowed unsatisfactory mark for this programme unit is permitted.
