each year the course uses an introductory handbook in the sociology of health. Key information on this book will be communicated at the beginning of the course on the e-learning platform (pointcarré).

Learning Outcomes

General competencies

knowing key concepts in health sociology an being able to apply the concepts

knowing key theoretical approaches within health sociology

Knowing the contribution of key sociological authors

developing insight in the evolution of the sociological approaches to medical and health issues

developing oral and written (scientific) reporting competencies

Grading

The final grade is composed based on the following categories:
Written Exam determines 60% of the final mark.
Other Exam determines 40% of the final mark.

Within the Written Exam category, the following assignments need to be completed:

  • Lecture exam with a relative weight of 1 which comprises 60% of the final mark.

    Note: Tijdens het mondeling examen wordt ook een vraag gesteld over de inhoud van het werkcollege

Within the Other Exam category, the following assignments need to be completed:

  • application exam with a relative weight of 1 which comprises 40% of the final mark.

    Note: Naast een WPO opdracht (presentatie en paper over een gezondheidssociologisch thema))

Additional info regarding evaluation

Anonymised written examination: 60% on the lecture and 40% on the applications.

The final result is calculated as the weighted average of both parts, unless a result of 7/20 or lower is obtained on one of the parts. In that case, the final result equals the lowest partial result.
