The course gives an overview of following subjects : structures of electric and hybrid vehicles, batteries, electric drives, fundamental design criteria and infrastructure for chargers.
Following aspects are covered related to alternative propulsion systems:
• Electric vehicles with batteries and fuel Cells en hybrid vehicles
• series hybrid, parallel hybrid, combined hybrid typologies
• hybrid power management strategies
• components (drives, batteries, etc.)
Additionally following aspects are described
• tail pipe after treatment systems: catalysts, particular filters etc.
• Alternative fuels: LPG, natural gas, bio fuels and hydrogen
- hand outs of the slides of the course
- up to date scientific publications
-aims and objectives :
To learn the basic knowledge about the different aspects concerning environmental vehicle technologies, especially electric, hybrid and fuel cell vehicles. To describe the technology and the fundamental design criteria.
-exam requirements :
The students must know the basics on the composition and the design of electric, hybrid and fuel cell vehicles. Additionally the must have the basic knowledge about alternative fuels. They must be able to apply these basics by means of an open course book exam.
Can collaborate in a (multidisciplinary) team.
Can work in an industrial environment with attention to safety, quality assurance, communication and reporting.
Can develop, plan, execute and manage engineering projects at the level of a starting professional.

Can reformulate complex engineering problems in order to solve them (simplifying assumptions, reducing complexity).
Can conceive, plan and execute a research project, based on an analysis of its objectives, existing knowledge and the relevant literature, with attention to innovation and valorization in industry and society.
Can correctly report on research and design results in the form of a technical report or in the form of a scientific paper.
Can present and defend results in a scientifically sound way, using contemporary communication tools, for a national as well as for an international professional or lay audience.
