1) Nuclear energy in the world/Belgium, reactor types in the world
2) Neutronics: fission process, neutron interactions, cross-sections, neutron detection, neutron multiplication factor
3) Neutron transport & diffusion theory
4) Neutron statics: one group 1-D theory (bare, reflected), one group 3-D theory (bare, reflected), two group theory (bare, reflected)
5) Reactor kinetics: point kinetic equations, solutions for small reactivities, reactor start-up, piloting and shutdown operations
6) Reactor dynamics: reactivity effects (temperature, void, burn-up, Xe and Sm poisoning), perturbation theory, reactor stability, reactor excursion
7) Nuclear engineering: heat removal & mechanical integrity of components
8) Nuclear safety and radioprotection: main safety principles, main principles of radioprotection
9) PWR working principles: PWR circuit lay-outs, main parameter regulation
10) Fuel cycle and advanced reactors: basic elements of the fuel cycle and introduction to advanced reactors
11) 1 Day visit to the Belgian Nuclear Research Centre SCK•CEN:
a. visit to research reactors BR1 & VENUS
b. lab sessions at BR1 and VENUS
12) exercises: cross sections, four factor formula, simple reactor statics problems (diffusion), simple reactor kinetics problems (point kinetics): selfstudy + one review session
