This course provides a thorough background in those statistic and chemometric methods that are particularly important to Analytical and Environmental chemistry. We want the students to develop an appreciation for the tasks of (1) judging the accuracy and precision of experimental data, (2) setting experimental design and (3) extracting information from the analysis of chemical systems. We also want to show how these judgments can be sharpened by the application of statistical tools. Additionally, we hope that with the help of this course students will develop the skills necessary to solve analytical problems in a quantitative manner with the aid of spreadsheet (e.g. EXCEL) tools and software (e.g. The R Project for Statistical Computing). The course incorporates many features and methods intend to enhance the learning experience for the students:

Written open-book examination containing resolution of exercises and open theoretical questions. The exam takes place over a period of 3 hrs and requires the use of a computer. A written report summarizing the results/answers and the methodology is requested at the end of the examination.
