85 h study time
Offer 1 with catalog number 4013580FNR for all students in the 2nd semester at a (F) Master - specialised level.
This OO consists of:
1. Lectures on the following topics
The content of Prof. Mets' lectures ('Clinical Aspects of Gerontology and Geriatrics') are mandatory knowledge for the module 'General Insights into Geriatric Rehabilitation'. The material from these lessons must therefore be known before the exam. Attendance is required for the lectures and the contact moments of the assignment clinical decision-making.
2. Clinical Reasoning and Decision Making:
Using cases, a minimum of 3 teaching moments will be devoted to clinical reasoning and clinical decision-making in the elderly patient. Attendance is mandatory - flexibility will be allowed for working students. Work is done in groups of approximately 5 students. Within this section we work with blended learning. Various teaching methods such as 'Think, pair, share' and 'flipped classroom' will be applied:
Students are expected to actively participate and maintain a critical attitude while working on the assignment and during the presentations.
The study material consists of the handouts of the slides and the comments on the slides given during the lectures and WPOs. The learning platform will be used. Accompanying scientific literature and knowledge clips can be made available by instructor (via copy or learning platform).
Absences due to top-level sports activities of the students with top-level sports status should be coordinated by the Topsport & Study department at the beginning of the semester in order to find a possible alternative date for the WPO or replacement assignment in time.
Study facilities (distance learning) can be offered to working students (to be coordinated with the supervisor).
This OO contributes to the following learning outcomes:
The final grade is composed based on the following categories:
Written Exam determines 70% of the final mark.
SELF Teamwork determines 30% of the final mark.
Within the Written Exam category, the following assignments need to be completed:
Within the SELF Teamwork category, the following assignments need to be completed:
The final score is composed of:
The theoretical exam consists of a written test with multiple choice questions and open questions.
The clinical reasoning task is assessed based on preparation, engagement (via peer assessment), the consensus document and presentation. Thus, it is possible that different people within the group may receive a different final grade. If the student did not perform the preparation or if he/she did not participate in the assignment, the grading on the task will be 0/20 in the first sitting. In the event that the student has a failing grade on the task, the student will be given an individual replacement assignment in the second session time.
Peer assessments will thus be used to determine the score of the clinical reasoning task. The result will be individual adjustment factors. These assessments must be completed in a timely manner each time, before the deadlines (communicated through Canvas). If no peer assessment is completed within the period before the deadline, an adjustment factor of 0.7 will automatically be assigned to the student who did not submit.
The student must pass on all components (min. 10/20 or min. 50%). If the student does not pass on any component, the weighted average will be deviated from and the lowest partial result will count as the exam result. A partial result on an exam component, if the result is at least 10/20 (or at least 50%), is automatically carried over to the second sitting. A student cannot waive the automatic transfer of the partial grade. No partial scores are transferred to a following academic year.
