Course Content

Content of theoretical lessons: Historical introduction; The engineering design process (with case histories); (analysis and implementation); Protection of technical kwowledge; European regulations,Innovation strategy and management; Hazards of new technology, ethics and product liability; Global warming.
During the course , there will be some seminars by invited speakers from industry and some visits to selected companies. The student has to write 3 papers on selected topics, dealing with FMEA, environment and new technologies.

Learning Outcomes

General competencies.

Purpose is that the student gets an insight in technology and his different phases: design,production and operation. The student  must also know and be able to estimate  the risks related to the application of technology on local and global level.

Grading

The final grade is composed based on the following categories:
Oral Exam determines 40% of the final mark.
LEC Paper determines 60% of the final mark.

Within the Oral Exam category, the following assignments need to be completed:

  • Oral Exam with a relative weight of 1 which comprises 40% of the final mark.

    Note: Students receive two questions. Answers can be prepared without using lecture material.

Within the LEC Paper category, the following assignments need to be completed:

  • Paper with a relative weight of 1 which comprises 60% of the final mark.

    Note: 3 written papers + Questions on basis of the 3 written papers.
