Introduction to probability theory and the theorem of Bayes.
Variables and distributions.
Types of variables and scales.
Descriptive statistics.
Important theoretical distributions.
Estimators and confidence intervals.
Hypothesis tests.
F-test, and independent and paired t-tests.
Tests for categorical variables.
Non-parametric techniques.
Analysis of variance.
Regression analysis.

Learning Outcomes

General competencies

The objective of the course is to teach basic concepts of data analysis.  The emphasis of the course is on definitions, techniques, and the selection of an appropriate method of data analysis.  Mathematical proofs are not discussed.  Each of the methods is extensively illustrated with practical examples.

Grading

The final grade is composed based on the following categories:
Written Exam determines 100% of the final mark.

Within the Written Exam category, the following assignments need to be completed:

  • schriftelijk openboek examen with a relative weight of 1 which comprises 100% of the final mark.
