The students are expected to conduct research in an independent and scientific manner to write a 18-22.000 word Master thesis in the English language on a legal subject concerning international and/or European law.

The learning outcomes are aligned with the domain-specific learning outcomes at EQF level 7. By drafting a master thesis, the student will demonstrate that he/she is able to:
- conduct independent research on topics dealing with core contemporary areas of international and/or European law and addressing some of the global legal challenges;
- conceptualise on the interconnections among the diverse legal areas that interact in global and/or European contexts;
- apply their theoretical legal knowledge to an specific research problem that will result in an academic paper;
- independently formulate a relevant research question within the field of international and/or European law, on current legal challenges, and frame the question within the existing regulations, and:
- working out the research results;
- critically evaluate the results with a view to contributing to the field of study; and
- develop his/her own autonomous and critical legal reasoning regarding complex global and/or European challenges.
- work with and express himself/herself in the English language on complex legal matters; and
- present and defend the academic paper clearly and concisely - in a structured manner - to a highly qualified jury.
