Course Content

Course description:

Reason and Engage is a multidisciplinary elective that aims to encourage critical reflection and engagement on current issues in society. Principles such as free inquiry, civic engagement, sense of responsibility, engaged science, inter- and multidisciplinarity and sustainability are guiding.

The course explores one overarching theme each year and aims to connect theoretical knowledge and societal engagement.

Students work in group on a project following the approach of Community Engaged Research and Learning (CERL).

At the end of the academic year the project is presented to a wider public.

All concrete information can be found on the website of Reason and Engage and on Canvas.

Organisation:

Reason and Engage consists of a series of lectures wherein speakers from various disciplines and expert domains discuss a different aspect of the overarching theme. The lectures take place at diverse locations in Brussels and are open to the public.

In addition, a series of seminars are scheduled. In the seminars we discuss the lectures before and after, and explain the approach of the assignments and CERL.

Reason and Engage is programmed in the first semester and second semester. All lectures and seminars take place in the evening from 6 to 8 pm.

Students' presence is required, absences are noted.
