Health psychology studies health and disease with special attention to lifestyle, (psychosocial) determinants,education and the effectiveness of interventions. A strong emphasis is placed on the influence of information and communication, social interaction, the effectiveness of health-promoting interventions and the behavioural change cycle at population, group and individual level.

At the end of the course, students should be able to:
1. Have acquired insight into a global and integrated vision on health psychology
2. Have acquired insight into the relevance of cognitions, emotions, personality, and social factors in illness and health
3. Have acquired insight into physiology of stress and the relaxation response, and into the way in which mind-body interactions can be elicited, initiated and measured
4. Understand how behavior, stress management, and behavior change can explain health, recovery and illness to a certain extent
5. To use the biopsychosocial model with regard to illness, illness behavior, sick role behavior, and health behavior
6. To apply theoretical concepts and models to specific health questions
7. Be critical of popular health information from the media
The final grade is composed based on the following categories:

The final grade will consist of a peer assessment (40%) and an assessment by the teacher (60%). The student who did not participate in each part of the permanent evaluation, will receive an Absence for the entire course unit.
The scoring matrix on which the peer assessment is based will be made available via Canvas at the start of the peer assessment.
When you take this course during 2nd session, you can start working with the digital material. The assessment for the reflection report may be different in the second session. In case there are not enough students to realise the peer assessment, the final grade will consist of 100% 'assessment by the teacher'.
