Offer 1 with catalog number 1023765BNR for all students in the 1st semester at a (B) Bachelor - advanced level.
The course unit is composed according to the principles of blended learning and consists of (1) lectures (a.o., flipped classrooms, knowledge clips,...), (2) interactive lessons (response, Q&A, WPO,...) and (3) independent work.
In the lectures, frequently occurring musculoskeletal disorders of the lower limb are discussed. Articles and knowledge clips are available as background information via the electronic learning platform.
In the practical classes, the following aspects are addressed:
In the group assignment clinical decision-making, the scientifically based clinical reasoning in a patient with musculoskeletal complaints of the lower limb, is practiced.
For dates, deadlines and planning of educational activities: see electronic learning platform.
The division into practice groups (WPO) must be respected at all times. Only if someone from the education team has given permission, a student can be allowed to change groups. Access to the classroom will be denied if students do not adhere to the group assignment
To attend practical classes, it is mandatory to wear appropriate clothing (i.e., shorts and appropriate underwear). Each student must bring a large towel for hygienic reasons (to put over the table). Considering the importance of hand hygiene within the health care sector, it is important to have short, well-groomed nails in order to be able to carry out all technical actions correctly and with good hand hygiene.
The student knows the clinical guidelines on the most common musculoskeletal disorders of the lower limb.
The student applies (with guidance) appropriate, targeted anamnesis and examination methods in line with clinical guidelines.
The student is able to search, select and interpret diagnostic accuracy studies on musculoskeletal disorders.
With guidance, the student is able to analyze and interpret research findings from a relatively simple, musculoskeletal health problem.
The student formulates and argues a physical therapy diagnosis for a relatively simple, musculoskeletal health problem.
The student is critical of their own actions.
The student masters scientifically based physical therapy treatment tools and techniques, as provided by the guidelines.
The student can assess existing scientific research on quality and effectiveness, interpret it and distil the consequences for practice.
The student possesses current knowledge of traumatologic and orthopedic conditions of the musculoskeletal system with which the physical therapist may be involved.
The student possesses current knowledge of the medical management of orthopedic and traumatologic conditions.
The student has the understanding and skills for the physical therapy treatment of traumatologic and orthopedic disorders of the musculoskeletal system.
The final grade is composed based on the following categories:
Written Exam determines 40% of the final mark.
Practical Exam determines 50% of the final mark.
SELF Teamwork determines 10% of the final mark.
Within the Written Exam category, the following assignments need to be completed:
Within the Practical Exam category, the following assignments need to be completed:
Within the SELF Teamwork category, the following assignments need to be completed:
The student must pass on all parts (min. 10/20 or min. 50%). If the student does not pass on any part, the weighted average is deviated from and the lowest partial result counts as the exam result. This partial result on an exam component -if the result is at least 10/20 (or at least 50%)-, is automatically carried over to the second examination period. A student cannot waive the automatic transfer of the partial grade. No partial scores are transferred to a following academic year.
The theoretical exam consists of a written test with multiple choice questions. Both knowledge and insight with regard to the subject matter as well as clinical reasoning are evaluated in the student.
During the practical exam the learned skills are tested.
A peer assessment will be used to determine the score of your clinical decision-making assignment. The result is an individual adjustment factor. This assessment must be completed in a timely manner, before the deadline (communicated via Canvas). If no peer assessment is completed by the deadline, an adjustment factor of 0.7 will automatically be assigned to the student who did not submit.
If the student did not participate in the group assignment, the grading will be 0/20 for the assignment in the first examination period. In this case, or in the event the student fails the group assignment, the student will be given an individual replacement assignment in the second examination period.
