6 ECTS credits
180 h study time
Offer 1 with catalog number 1023467BNR for all students in the 2nd semester at a (B) Bachelor - advanced level.
In this course, attention is given to learning disorders and the underlying genetic, neurological, and cognitive processes of reading skills/dyslexia and arithmetic skills/dyscalculia. Additionally, important themes within educational psychology (e.g., inclusive education, giftedness, grade retention) are discussed with a focus on practice within Flemish education.
During the practical workshops (WPOs), students have the opportunity to practice the diagnosis of learning disorders and giftedness. Afterwards, students are expected to independently administer, process, and interpret a number of diagnostic tools in the field and write a report on their findings.

To pass this course, the student must have passed both the exam and the WPO. If the student fails one or both of the parts, the total score cannot exceed 7/20. Both partial results can be transferred to August examination. The partial result of the WPO can be transferred to next academic year.
The multiple-choice exam will be graded using positive scoring with a Higher Cutoff. Therefore, no points will be deducted for a wrong answer. However, the scoring of points through guessing will be accounted for in the final score by raising the passing threshold (= cutoff). The cutoff for the exam and the exact conversion table will be communicated in a timely manner on Canvas and in the exam instructions. The exam strategy is simple due to this method: do your best on the entire exam, and for questions that you do not know or partially know, guess to the best of your ability without worrying about any point deduction.
