The course aims to provide students with an understanding of the policy and practice of adult educational sectors. The subdivision of adult educational practice (agogiek) in the field is expressed in different sectors. The focus within this subject will be mainly on the socio-cultural field, but the others will also be covered. An "adult educational field" (Agogische sector) refers to a specific area within social/cultural/leisure /education services that focuses on guiding, supporting and encouraging individuals, groups or communities to make positive changes in their lives (e.g. social work, welfare work, youth work, cultural work, community work, community development, etc.). The aim of the various sectors is to guide and support individuals and groups to develop skills, promote self-reliance, improve their well-being and enhance their ability to participate in society. The course aims to allow students to develop an understanding of these different practices in Flanders and, more specifically, of the structure of these practices and the policy framework within which they fall, with a specific focus on the Brussels Capital Region. It wants to give students the opportunity to have a limited practical experience in order to broaden and increase their interest and commitment towards the different sectors and the social context in which they find themselves.

By the end of this course, they will be able to:
1. Students understand the impact of policy on organisations within these sectors.
2. Students will be able to interpret certain societal issues and have an understanding of how they can concretely contribute to processes of change.
3. As the course progresses, students develop a more open, critical attitude about and nuanced view of challenges facing different sectors.
4. Students gain insight into the important contemporary challenges facing professionals within these specific sectors in the current social context, with a focus on the Brussels context.
The final grade is composed based on the following categories:
Written Exam determines 70% of the final mark.
PRAC Practical Assignment determines 30% of the final mark.

- Students must score at least 10/20 on each component to pass this course. If you fail one of the two components, you will receive the lower component grade as your final mark. The partial mark you passed in the first sitting may be carried over to the second sitting and you do not have to take it again.
- The second session consists of an assignment according to the same requirements of the first session.
- The student's overall grade for the group assignment is not necessarily the same for all group members. The individual grade depends on a peer evaluation in which the individual contribution is evaluated.
- If you are absent for at least one component, you will receive an "Absent" as the final grade for the course component.
- The partial results of individual course units are not transferable to the following academic year.
