The translation workshop is a practical course in which students will acquire professional knowledge and skills for translating technical-scientific, literary, economic and legal texts from the foreign language into Dutch (and vice versa).
General and specialised language resources.
Students will receive feedback during the translation workshop or after appointment.
Students are able to:
provide fluent and accurate translations from the foreign language into Dutch and vice versa.
make use of translation strategies as described in specialised literature.
consult dictionaries, reference works and databanks appropriate for the translation assignment.
work with CAT tools (Computer-Aided Translation tools).
use efficient search strategies on the internet.
carry out knowledge and terminology management tasks.
adopt an informed and research-based attitude towards all aspects of translation.
demonstrate a professional attitude when doing translation assignments, either individually or in a team
The final grade is composed based on the following categories:
Written Exam determines 37% of the final mark.
Other Exam determines 63% of the final mark.

The evaluation of the literary translation workshop in the first examination session will be based on permanent assessment only (25% of the total mark).
The evaluations of the technical-scientific, economic en legal translation workshops will be based on permanent assessment (37,5% of the total mark) and a written exam (37,5% of the total mark). The exam will be held during the second period of the first examination session (June)
Students will need to successfully pass all parts of the course: viz. technical-scientific , literary, economic and legal translation. If a student has passed all parts of the course, the final mark in the first examination session will correspond to the total average of all parts. If a student scores less than 10/20 for at least one part of the course, the lowest mark obtained will be entered as final mark. In that case, a written exam will be held in the second examination session for all parts for which the student scored less than 10/20 during the first examination session. The final mark in the second examination session will correspond to the total average of those parts for which the student successfully passed in the first examination period and those parts for which a written exam was held during the second session. If a student again scores less than 10/20 for at least one part of the course, the lowest mark obtained will be entered as final mark.
