Offer 1 with catalog number 4020047FNR for all students in the 1st and 2nd semester at a (F) Master - specialised level.
In this course, the skills that are taught in Clinical and Societal Topics I, II and III are tested.
For each theme, a multidisciplinary group of mentors from various domains was brought together, such as general practitioners, specialists from the perspective of reflection, cutting and support, professionals from the Public Health sector, ethicists and paramedics. Together they provide the backbone for each theme in the form of flash lectures, where desirable supported by e-content and self-study.
The core values for this education are: inter- and multidisciplinary, transmural, transformative and holistic, activating and interactive.
Development of problem-solving abilities and proposals for therapeutic strategies, concepts of disease prevalence and use of databases become an essential element here. Developing differential diagnostics in decreasing probability, in other words drawing up a list of hypotheses to be tested, using the diagnostic means (technical or biochemical) in an economically responsible manner and finally proposing a therapy, require a good knowledge of the rapidly evolving IT highway . The application of "evidence-based medicine" is a core skill of every basic physician. The doctor must be aware of the information sources that support his medical practice. In this way, the student is encouraged to formulate his uncertainties in medical practice on a daily basis and to critically look up the necessary information that will further support his decisions.
In the 3rd Master's degree, specific attention is paid to the bio-psycho-social context of a care issue and the related social implications. This includes health-economic considerations, consequences for labor (re) integration, medical and ethical aspects, transmural and chronic care processes, patient partnerships, work-life balance, etc.
During the evaluation, the learned theoretical concepts from the course unit “Clinical and Social Topics II” and “Clinical and Social Topics III” are tested. The student is presented with a case-based assignment, which the student prepares individually at the start of the exam. The preparation is followed by an oral defense in front of the examiners, in which the search strategy as the basis for solving the case is explained. The individual preparation is recorded via a screen recording. This recording is used during the oral defense to evaluate the search strategy.
The students must demonstrate that they can effectively apply the intended competences (CanMeds roles and Learning Objectives of the program) in the approach of an individual patient.
The final grade is composed based on the following categories:
Oral Exam determines 100% of the final mark.
Within the Oral Exam category, the following assignments need to be completed:
The evaluation of all skills acquired during the course "Clinical and Societal Topics I, II and III" form the basis of the evaluation. This evaluation consists of a case-driven assignment in which the student can demonstrate real-time decision-making and health-social reasoning and actions, using the relevant (electronically) available sources.
