Course Content

This course wants to introduce concepts, theories, methods and questions of political psychology.

In first instance the course will provide an overview of the main research questions, concepts and theories in the domain of political psychology. A second section will be devoted to the psychological foundations politics. In a third section we focus on research of elites (political leaders), their opinions, attitudes and behavior. A fourth section  tries to disentangle theories about the ways/processes/institutions through which citizens acquire political opinions, attitudes and behavioral patterns. A final section tries to dig deeper into relevant political attitudes and behavior. This section will be devoted to psychological theories trying to explain voting behavior, but also other relevant behavior such as political violence and terrorism. It will also deal with political relevant attitudes, such as resentment, ethnocentrism, political cynicism, nationalism, islamophobia, and anti-Semitism.
