Learning Outcomes

General Competences

Hand down to medical students knowledge of and insight into the cellular consequences of genetic and /or acquired modifications in intra- or extracellular environment. Attention is mainly given to mechanisms that make an adaptation possible and thus avoid a pathology, and to factors which contribute to a clinical process. From this framework it is explained how biochemical determinations and morphological research can provide information about the molecular and cellular (physio)pathology. The course serves also as a basis for education on the development of disease, in clinical diagnostics and in the formulation of objectives for biomedical research.

Grading

The final grade is composed based on the following categories:
Written Exam determines 80% of the final mark.
PRAC Lab Work determines 10% of the final mark.
SELF Teamwork determines 10% of the final mark.

Within the Written Exam category, the following assignments need to be completed:

  • Examen Schriftelijk with a relative weight of 80 which comprises 80% of the final mark.

Within the PRAC Lab Work category, the following assignments need to be completed:

  • Practica with a relative weight of 10 which comprises 10% of the final mark.

Within the SELF Teamwork category, the following assignments need to be completed:

  • Casuïstiek with a relative weight of 10 which comprises 10% of the final mark.

Additional info regarding evaluation

Written exam with several open questions

The score for the practical part is based on continuous evaluation. The practical courses are obligatory. More than one unauthorized absence at the WPO leads to a result code 'absent' for the exam component 'WPO' and therefore to a result code 'absent' from the whole.

In case of a score of 7/20 or lower for either the practical course or the written exam, the lowest score will be taken as the final score for the entire course.

Absence on an exam component leads to the result code 'absent' on the whole.
With a result of at least 10/20, the partial result of the practical component is always transferred to the second session. If the score is lower, the student must take the practical exam in the second session. With a result of at least 10/20, the partial result of the practical component can be transferred to the following academic year. The student must send an e-mail for this to the assistant.
The group work case studies cannot be resumed in the second session. The partial result for this exam component is transferred to the second session.

Allowed unsatisfactory mark
The supplementary Teaching and Examination Regulations of your faculty stipulate whether an allowed unsatisfactory mark for this programme unit is permitted.
