Offer 1 with catalog number 6016865FNR for all students in the 1st semester at a (F) Master - specialised level.
The course consists of chapters on:
- A "terminology and history of archival science",
- Arrangement and description of archives" composed of 'theoretical and applied archival description', 'typology of sources', and 'arrangement principles', and
- "Valorisation" including 'reference service' and 'educational work', both the application of modern communication technology and the discussion of 'case studies' from everyday archival practise are given special attention.
Study materials consist of: the course book, a "reader" containing a selection of recent articles from the specialist literature and a manual ( A. DEN TEULING, Archiefterminologie voor Nederland en Vlaanderen, 's- Gravenhage, 2003).
Complementary study material:
The course draws on concrete examples of archival records (the most common documentary forms), finding aids, an "archive dossier", an "insurance dossier", archive folders and archival websites.
Students are to acquire the terminology and the theoretical foundations of archival science, in particular with regard to arrangement and description and valorisation of archives and with specific attention to the history of the creation of archives and the use of archives.
Students are expected to be able to express themselves in a systematic and duly consistent manner in the technical jargon and demonstrate they have an intellectual command of the foundations of the profession. They have to be able to put this knowledge into practice.
The final grade is composed based on the following categories:
Oral Exam determines 100% of the final mark.
Within the Oral Exam category, the following assignments need to be completed:
Oral examination.

- part E. Put: 1 comprehension question and 1 practical question
