The ASO also deepens in a wide range of fields within cardiology, necessary for the practical applications that are mentioned in the internships and relate to the attainment targets as defined under 'medicus' level 3. The ASO must also function with increasing independence and complexity based on a scientific basis.
Every ASO Cardiology receives a free copy of 'The ESC Textbook of Cardiovasular Medicine'
This bulky textbook contains 38 chapters. The higher education lasts 36 months. The ASO is expected to read an average of one chapter per month.
WORKING METHODS
The following working methods are used:
- seminars: ASO identifies the topics where knowledge needs to be updated. Then he prepares a seminar himself, where the supervisor gives feeckback (2 seminars / month)
- interactive seminars in cardiology (1x / week)
- seminars in cardiology
- Ex cathedra education (applied education in cardiology)
- self study
- journal clubs in cardiology and related specialties (1x per week)
OLR 1 - Has in-depth medical knowledge and understanding of the specialty
OLR 2 - Has acquired the skills specific to the specialism and applies them correctly
OLR 19 - Meets the general and specific final objectives, specific to the specialty, concerning diagnostics and syndromes / disorders
OLR 17 - Continuously develops and improves own skills
The final grade is composed based on the following categories:
Other Exam determines 100% of the final mark.
Within the Other Exam category, the following assignments need to be completed:
Portfolio with 3-monthly assessment interviews (each counting 25%) and thus a total final score of 100%.
