Offer 1 with catalog number 1008971ANR for all students in the 2nd semester at a (A) Bachelor - preliminary level.
This course covers the core issues and aspirations of the adult education sciences which are explored by way of a social and historical introduction from a historical, sociological and research-innovative angle. The course adopts both a historicising as well as a sociological approach. Combined, they present agogics as a veritable urban science which is seeking to provide answers to the question as to how city dwellers should behave in terms of lifestyle, working life and knowledge (3 w's).
A social map of the agogical sector is indispensable for this first bachelor year, as is an introduction to case work, management and policy (3 b's). This serves to offer students a clear insight into the set of duties of the modern-day agogue (the practical professional worker).
There is a group assignment with presentation associated with this course unit. In small groups (3-4 persons), students are introduced to the field and to important themes. Each group works independently with local actors (socio-cultural civil society, self-organisations, institutional facilities, etc.) and Brussels is used as a living lab. The assignment is twofold and consists of a project - in collaboration with the local partner - to be determined by each student group and the organization of a joint show and presentation moment. This group assignment takes place "in real life" as much as possible, but can be replaced by an online alternative if necessary.
By the end of the course, the student will be able to:
understand, describe and explain the central concepts and views of the agogical sciences,
summarize and illustrate the interdisciplinary nature of the agogical sciences,
describe the social and historical background of agogical science and the functions of agogical work,
describe, compare and illustrate the main agogical models and methods,
make connections between the agogical field of practice and agogical theoretical concepts,
under supervision actively contribute to the planning and daily functioning of organizations within the field of agogical work in the context of the practical assignment,
reflecting on the importance of cooperation in a multidisciplinary professional environment.

The student's total score for the practical assignment is not necessarily the same for all group members. The individual grade is subject to correction by peer evaluation where an individual contribution is evaluated.
Students must achieve a minimum of 10/20 on each component to pass this course. If the student has a failing grade on either component, the student will be assigned a 9/20 or the average score if lower.
Any component on which a minimum of 10/20 was not obtained must be retaken in second sitting. If the student obtained a passing grade for any of the components in first sit, this point is carried over to second sit. In the second sit, the practical assignment is replaced by a paper.
If the student is absent for either of the two components, the student will be assigned an "Absent" as the overall grade for the Course Component.
