Course Content

The aim of this course is to introduce students in Physical Education and Movement Sciences to the principles that apply to the management of sports organizations, including but not limited to: public, non-profit and commercial sports organizations; companies that produce sports-related goods; and service organizations in the sports industry. At the start of the course a general overview is presented about the sports industry and the work possibilities/opportunities for sport managers. Principles that are covered in the course include, among others, strategic and operational management of sports organizations, services and products, marketing of/through sport, the structure and culture of sports organizations, etc. The principles are approached from management theory and applied in practical examples.

A Bachelor of Science in Physical Education and Movement Sciences:

Grading

The final grade is composed based on the following categories:
Written Exam determines 60% of the final mark.
PRAC Practical Assignment determines 40% of the final mark.

Within the Written Exam category, the following assignments need to be completed:

  • Schriftelijk examen with a relative weight of 60 which comprises 60% of the final mark.

Within the PRAC Practical Assignment category, the following assignments need to be completed:

  • Seminariewerk with a relative weight of 40 which comprises 40% of the final mark.

Additional info regarding evaluation

The deadlines for the WPO assignments are communicated at the start of the semester via Canvas. Tasks submitted late will still be accepted but a penalty will be awarded (20% of the score is deducted per calendar day that the task was submitted late). The end result of the sports management course consists of two partial results (the exam and the WPO assignments). The student must achieve a result of at least 10/20 for all partial results. The partial results are automatically transferred to the second examination period if the result is at least 10/20. A student cannot opt out of the automatic transfer of the partial result.

The supplementary Teaching and Examination Regulations of your faculty stipulate whether an allowed unsatisfactory mark for this programme unit is permitted.
