Course Content
This course focuses on the potential of sport in relationship to personal and social development of specific groups in a socially vulnerable situation. Special attention is dedicated to young people. Two aspects are central: 'inclusion in sport' (participation in sport) and 'inclusion through sport' (sport as a means for development). Besides theoretical insights into working with specific target groups, attention is also paid to practice and policy-oriented aspects in relation to inclusion in and through sport for persons in a socially vulnerable situation.
The WPO part consists of three sub-assignments: (1) the development of an descriptive logic model, (2) the development of an analytical logic model and (3) a critical reflection.

Learning Outcomes

General competencies

After following this course, the student is able to:
-on the basis of theoretical insights with regard to the concepts of 'social vulnerability', 'social inclusion' and 'social exclusion' describe the significance of sport in working with people in a socially vulnerable situation;
-to draw up both a descriptive and an analytical logical model of an existing sport-plus initiative;
-to critically reflect on the role of sport in a sport-for-development program.

Grading

The final grade is composed based on the following categories:
Written Exam determines 60% of the final mark.
PRAC Presentation determines 40% of the final mark.

Within the Written Exam category, the following assignments need to be completed:

  • Written exam with a relative weight of 60 which comprises 60% of the final mark.

    Note: Theoretical part

Within the PRAC Presentation category, the following assignments need to be completed:

  • Presentation with a relative weight of 40 which comprises 40% of the final mark.

    Note: Practical part

Additional info regarding evaluation
Theory: written evaluation of the course material provided during the theory lessons (60%)
Practice: An evaluation matrix with indicators for the three sub-assignments is used for this:
- The development of a descriptive logic model (15%)
- The development of an analytical logic model (15%)
- A critical reflection (10%)
Correction of the individual mark by a peer evaluation via CANVAS. The individual grade for the WPO is corrected by means of an individual weighting factor and thus determines 20% of the final score.
The student's total score is not necessarily the same for all group members. The individual mark depends on a correction by peer evaluation. If the peer evaluation is completed too late, a corrected individual weighting factor will be applied.
The student must have participated in all assignments for the assessment - otherwise they will receive an 'absent' on the grade sheet.
Allowed unsatisfactory mark
The supplementary Teaching and Examination Regulations of your faculty stipulate whether an allowed unsatisfactory mark for this programme unit is permitted.
