Learning Outcomes

General competencies

(1)    To know and to understand the object of orthopedagogy;
(2)    To have basic knowledge regarding recent orthopedagogical theories and current developments;
(3)    To have knowledge of orthopedagogical practice and intervention.
(4)    To understand the meaning of classification and assessment for orthopedagogical action;
(5)    To have basic knowledge about persons with intellectual disabilities, children with physical disabilities, behavioral and emotional problems, learning disabilities, deaf children and children with hearing problems, child maltreatment, neglect and sexual abuse.

Grading

The final grade is composed based on the following categories:
Written Exam determines 75% of the final mark.
PRAC Practical Assignment determines 25% of the final mark.

Within the Written Exam category, the following assignments need to be completed:

  • Written exam mulitple choice with a relative weight of 75 which comprises 75% of the final mark.

Within the PRAC Practical Assignment category, the following assignments need to be completed:

  • Practical assignment with a relative weight of 25 which comprises 25% of the final mark.

Calculation of final grade
- 75% written exam
- 25% part exercises based on peer assessment and peer review. Peer assessment and peer review are compulsory. Via peer review the group paper will be scored. Peer assessment results in an adjustment factor that will be used to individualize the score on the group paper. If a student does not submit a statement stating that a personal contribution has been made to the group task, the teacher may decide to give an 'absence' score. If a student does not register in a group within the set deadline, the professor can decide to give a score "absent". In case of the absence of a peer assessment, and/or a statement that a personal contribution was made, and/or peer review on time the professor can decide to give a score “absent”. However, peer review scores or peer assessment scores can always be overruled by the professor in case they turn out to be unreliable.

The multiple-choice exam will be graded by positive scoring with Higher Cesura. There therefore no points will be deducted for a wrong answer. Getting points by guessing will be included in the final grade by increasing the pass mark (= caesura). The grade for the exam and the exact conversion table will be communicated in a timely manner on Canvas and in the exam instructions communicated. By this method, the exam strategy is simple: do your best on all of the exam, questions you don't know or know partially, guess to the best of your ability, without concern about possible point deductions.

Generative AI can be used in any way to complete the paper assignment. Any use of generative AI should be properly referenced (see reference list AI).

Allowed unsatisfactory mark
